Leaving Formspree? Change one URL and keep everything else
Moving off Formspree is one edit: swap the formspree.io address in your form’s action for your FormRill form URL. Your field names stay the same, and the free plan goes from 50 submissions a month to 500, with a custom thank-you redirect included.
What Formspree is
Formspree is one of the longest-running form backends. You point an HTML form at a Formspree endpoint and it emails you each submission, with a dashboard, an archive and plugins for tools like Slack and Telegram. It is a mature, well-documented product.
What to know before you choose
- Formspree describes its free plan as being for “testing and development, limited to 50 submissions/mo”.
- The free plan keeps a 30-day submission archive.
- A custom thank-you page, submission export, autoresponses and API access are not part of the free plan.
- The free plan has one team member and two linked emails.

What FormRill gives you
- Never lose a submission. Every submission is saved before anything is delivered, so a failed email or webhook can’t lose it. Every delivery is logged, failures email you, and failed deliveries are retried automatically for about a day, or whenever you press Retry now. Free on every plan.
- One click to email. Your first form already sends to your inbox. If your form has an email field, Reply goes straight to the visitor.
- Route it anywhere. Telegram is free. Google Sheets, WhatsApp, webhooks, n8n and your CRM are Pro features, free during the beta.
- No CAPTCHA. A hidden honeypot field catches bots and keeps them in a Spam folder, out of your inbox.
Switching from Formspree
The change is in your form’s opening tag. Your fields stay as they are.
<form action="https://formspree.io/f/YOUR_FORMSPREE_ID" method="POST">
<!-- your existing fields -->
</form><form action="https://api.formrill.com/YOUR_FORM_ID/submit" method="POST">
<input type="checkbox" name="botcheck" hidden />
<!-- your existing fields -->
</form>- Create a free FormRill account. Your first form is created for you and already emails your address. Copy its form URL.
- In your HTML, replace the Formspree endpoint in your form’s
actionwith the FormRill form URL. Keep your field names: FormRill stores whatever fields you send. - Add the hidden honeypot field:
<input type="checkbox" name="botcheck" hidden>. - Want visitors to land on your own thank-you page? Add a hidden field named
redirectwith the full URL, or set it once in the dashboard. - Send a test submission and check your inbox and the FormRill dashboard. Keep your Formspree form for a few days, then retire it.
Questions
Do I need to rename my form fields?
No. FormRill stores every field you send under the name you gave it. If a field is named email, it becomes the reply-to address on the notification, so Reply goes straight to the visitor.
Can I bring my old Formspree submissions?
FormRill does not import submissions from other services. Keep your Formspree account until you have saved what you need.
Does FormRill support file uploads?
Not yet. File uploads are coming soon. If you need uploads today, Formspree’s paid plans are the better fit for now.
Will my JavaScript (fetch) form still work?
Yes. Send the request with the header Accept: application/json and FormRill answers with JSON containing ok: true, so your success message keeps working.

Start freeWhen Formspree is the better fit
- You need file uploads or autoresponses today. On FormRill these are still coming soon.
- You already use it, your site gets fewer than 50 submissions a month, and you have no reason to move.
- You want reCAPTCHA on your form. FormRill deliberately uses an invisible honeypot instead of a CAPTCHA.
