Send form submissions to Google Sheets

Every time someone fills in your form, a new row appears in your Google Sheet. It takes about five minutes, and the only code is a short script you paste into your sheet. The data goes from FormRill straight to a small script inside your own Google account, so no third party sits in between.

Set it up

  1. Create a form in the FormRill dashboard (one click) and copy its form URL.
  2. Open your Google Sheet and type a header row: Date, Name, Email, Message.
  3. Open Extensions, then Apps Script. Delete the sample code, paste the script below and click Save.
  4. Click Deploy, then New deployment. Choose the type Web app, set “Execute as” to Me and “Who has access” to Anyone, then Deploy. Allow access when Google asks, and copy the Web app URL that ends in /exec.
  5. Back in FormRill, add a Google Sheets automation and paste that URL.
  6. Put the form URL in your form’s action and send a test. A new row appears within seconds.
function doPost(e) {
  var body = JSON.parse(e.postData.contents);
  var d = body.data;
  SpreadsheetApp.getActiveSheet().appendRow([
    new Date(body.created_at), d.name, d.email, d.message
  ]);
  return ContentService.createTextOutput('ok');
}

Your form

<form method="POST"
  action="https://api.formrill.com/YOUR_FORM_ID/submit">
  <input type="checkbox" name="botcheck" hidden />
  <input type="text" name="name" required />
  <input type="email" name="email" required />
  <textarea name="message" required></textarea>
  <button type="submit">Send</button>
</form>

Good to know

One form can use several automations at once, for example email and a webhook together. Every submission is stored before any of them run.
